We are heeh, a research-based interdisciplinary practice collective formed by Huiqi He and Tianding He. Our practice is grounded in fieldwork and local experiences, integrating ritual, mythology, and theatre studies to explore the poetics and politics of the peripheral through bodily performance and cross-media works. Huiqi‘s recent research and practice focus on witchcraft, ghost narratives, and cultural hybridity in the mountainous regions of southern China, such as Xiangxi and Guizhou. Employing methodologies from visual anthropology and multisensory experiences, she creates experimental ethnographic films, ink installations, and performance art. Tianding is an experimental theatre director and scholar. Centering on the bodily experiences of marginalized groups—including people with disabilities, Indigenous communities, and migrants—she employs devised theatre methodologies. Using objects, movement, and technology, she explores possibilities for counter-narrative through workshops and co-creations with different communities worldwide.
